When lifestyle changes and nutritional supplements don’t work for insomnia?

When lifestyle changes and nutritional supplements don’t work for insomnia?
April 20, 2018Dr. Steven Zodkoy, DCLatest Newsinsomnia
Severe and chronic insomnia is a common issue in my office.  Lifestyle changes and nutritional supplements are usually enough to correct this problem and win me the “thanks’ of many patients but there are those that need extra ordinary measures to restore their sleep. Learn about nutritional support and NET at Monmouth Advanced Medicine.
These options usually require an alternative physician to evaluate and demonstrate:
  1. Alpha Stem or CES ultra (www.cesultra.com) are portable medical devices about the size of a phone. Insomnia and anxiety sufferers, they often go together, use ear buds to send a low voltage electrical wave across the brain.  This low voltage wave, you do not feel the wave, promotes the production of alpha waves in the brain.  Alpha waves calm and relax the mind and body so a person feels less anxiety, more focused and able to sleep.  The best part of these units is that they help to restore the mind-body natural rhythm.   These units have been around for decades, FDA recognized and are completely safe.
  2. Pineal breathing exercise is extremely useful for those with insomnia and adrenal fatigue/burnout.  The pineal gland is found at the base of the brain and is responsible for keeping us in synch with the earth’s seasons and day-night changes.  Many with adrenal fatigue/burnout, stress and lifestyles that keep them indoors to much lose their natural synchronicity with the earth and the seasons. An Applied Kinesiologist doctor (www.ICAKUSA.com) can test to see if you have lost your natural synchronicity with the earth and the seasons.  The test involves testing your muscle strength in the light and in the dark and noting any changes.  A person with abnormal findings can do a breathing exercise to restore their normal synchronicity.  The exercise requires a person to breath in while using their thumbs to separate the upper palate, 5 breaths is enough.  This exercise is done first think in the morning and at night.  An alternative to the exercise is to take a pineal glandular nutritional supplement.
  3. Phenibut is a nutritional supplement that is not often recommend because it is so powerful.  Phenibut is a form of GABA that goes directly into the brain and promotes extreme calm and relaxation.  There is some controversy over whether it is safe or addictive.  I have used it with my patients for years with no harmful side effects.  The key, like everything else, is to use it in moderation.
  4. Neuron-emotional technique (www.netmindbody.com) allows a trained physician to relieve emotional stress trapped in the nervous system.   Many people aren’t aware of these hidden stressors or only realize them at night which leads to insomnia or night terrors.  NET is an excellent way to reduce the stress on the nervous system which may be causing anxiety, depression and insomnia.  NOTE – NET is one of the main techniques I use to help veterans heal from PTSD which almost always involves insomnia.
