Intervertebral Disc Decompression (IDD)
with the SPINA System Treatment Protocol

Stage 1: Pain Relief

A patient is treated 4 times a week for 2 weeks. This constitutes visits one through eight. The goal of stage one is to reduce the patient's pain. The therapy will typically include the SPINA System machine, soft tissue manipulation, alpha stimulation, hot moist heat, and kinetic exercises

Stage 2: Pain Relief and Increased Ranges of Motion.

A patient is treated 4 times a week for 1 week and 3 times a week for 3 weeks, visits 9-11. During this stage of your therapy the focus will still be on pain relief, but a greater amount of therapy is initiated to increase the low back range of motion. Increasing range of motion is extremely important: it is the first part of ensuring long-term pain relief and increased function. Your therapy will typically include the SPINA System machine, soft tissue manipulation, alpha stimulation, hot moist heat, and kinetic exercises.

Stage 3: Increased Ranges of Motion and Muscle Strength

Treatment visits 21-26 are scheduled 3 times a week. For 2 weeks the typical patient has a major reduction in pain and is now concentrating on increasing the stability and function of the lower back. After increasing motion it is necessary to strengthen the muscles to stabilize the lower back and to maintain the progress that has been reached. The therapy will typically include the therapeutic exercises, soft tissue manipulation, home exercises, alpha stimulation, hot moist heat, and kinetic exercises.

Stage 4: Muscle strengthening and coordination

Visits 37-32 concentrate on strengthening and coordinating the actions of your lower back and leg muscles. This final stage of your care is designed to assure that your body has increased range of motion, increased muscle strength and has the proper body mechanics to optimize your enjoyment of life's activities. The therapy will typically include the therapeutic exercises, soft tissue manipulation, home exercises, proprioception exercises, alpha stimulation, hot moist heat, and kinetic exercises.

Glossary

SPINA SYSTEM - A FDA recognized apparatus that has an 85+% success rate for treating herniated discs, bulging discs, facets syndrome, sciatica, and low back pain. The therapy is painless and takes about 30 minutes per session The SPINA SYSTEM unit utilizes a computer-regulated traction to decompress rejuvenate and stabilize the discs of the lumbar spine. The success of this therapy comes from the computer's ability to vary and personalize the traction so that maximal disc reabsorbtion is achieved.

Alpha stimulation - A FDA approved electronic therapy that helps to naturally increase the release of endorphins in the brain. This therapy is excellent for controlling and reducing pain and anxiety

Kinetic exercises - These exercises involve the therapist in assisting with stretching, strengthening, and coordination of muscles.

Therapeutic exercises - These exercises are performed primarily by the patient under the supervision of the therapist. These therapies may include muscle strengthening stretching and coordination

Proprioception exercises - These exercises are designed to improve the reception of muscle movements by the brain. This is extremely important in preventing muscle spasm muscle strain -and tendon sprain

Soft tissue manipulation - Movement of the muscles joints and tendons of the body to improve function and relieve pain.
